Describe the worship service you attended. How was it
similar to or different from your regular context?
The worship service at RCC is very similar to the
worship service at Iglesia Del Pueblo. Of course for the language difference
both worship services are very similar. RCC uses a lot of contemporary music
and is very appealing to a younger aged group of people. Being a congregation full
of families the worship style definitely had a more appealing style, at least
for me. Coming from a church with a similar background I think that the worship
service was not uncomfortable for me in the sense that it reminded me a lot of
my home church, and I was able to worship as if I were back at my home church.
What did you find most interesting or appealing about
the worship service?
One thing that I found to be most interesting is that
the church in general is very family oriented. That probably does not have
anything to do with the worship service, but it was nice to see that mostly
everyone knew everyone. It is a very appealing atmosphere and it felt like a
very welcoming place.
What did you find most disorienting or challenging
about the worship service?
The one thing that was a little disorienting was that
I was the only Latina in a congregation mostly made up of Korean Americans.
There are a lot of mixed families, but being a Hispanic in a Korean church was
definitely disorienting in the sense that I felt like a minority for a short
period. But as the service went on I felt more welcome as I met members of the
church. Once again I think it was a very humbling experience because I put
myself in a setting that I didn't expect to feel out of place, and I know that
that feeling for anyone can be disorienting and challenging for anyone.
What aspect of Scripture or theology did the worship service
illuminate for you that you had not perceived as clearly in your regular
context?
The Aspect of theology that the
worship service at RCC illuminated for me is that they focused most on the Holy
Spirit. I think that it was so interesting for me to see this because at my
church God the Father is what our worship Pastor mostly focuses on. I think it
would be interesting to see a worship service that focuses on all three parts
of the trinity. I’m sure that I have probably already been to one, but lately
the service that I have either visited or attended have been focused on only
one part.
